Finding Inspiration in Nature: Batik-Woodcutting Fusion Art Workshop
On June 3-4, 2016, Draw Your Imagination, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, and the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve teamed up to provide a batik-wood cutting fusion art workshop, Finding Inspiration in Nature. Eleven participants found inspiration exploring the habitats of the Reserve and everyone had a fabulous time creating their own works of art in the form of batik, wood cuts and prints, and a batik-woodcut printing fusion. The two-day workshop covered all aspects of batiking from history to design to painting to waxing techniques, and the story of Walter Anderson's craft and techniques for creating gorgeous woodcuts from linoleum and other materials.
Artistic Pathways to Scientific Understanding
In November 2015, Ayesha worked with her scientists/artists colleagues from Western Oregon University, Oregon Sea Grant, and Germano & Associates to develop poster and talk sessions for the Coastal Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) Biannual Meeting. An exceptionally talented group of artists/scientists presented posters and talks of their work, and they were met with great enthusiasm from the audience who responded with laughter, dancing, wonder and a standing ovation. Artistic Pathways promises to be permanent fixture at the CERF meetings. We'll see y'all in Rhode Island!
