The Farm & Art School of South Alabama
I endeavor to open an Acton Academy in my small town of Grand Bay, AL. I have 6-year-old twin girls, miracles of faith and science, to whom I would like to give the best education - Christian-based, self-directed, challenging, service-oriented, free and creative - so they can grow up smart, strong, healthy, self-reliant, grounded, happy and wise. I also endeavor to make an impact in my community by offering this same education opportunity to as many local children as possible. I aim to make my school affordable, loving, flexible, rigorous, accepting, and inspiring. I aim to partner with guides who are strong and skilled and exemplary manifests of the fruit of the Spirit: filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, and/or aim with all their heart to be that. My vision is to build a place where children are free, but tasked with a range of living responsibilities; are independent, but challenged with self-directed basic skill building; are cared for and immersed in loving their neighbor and other scriptures thoroughly; and, are inspired and supported to learn, to create, to build, to give and to grow. We will gain knowledge and critical thinking skills, raise our plants and animals with care and joy, integrate and reuse resources and materials, create and innovate, learn about the natural world while living in harmony with it, and find a multitude of ways to make our community a better place while making ourselves better humans.
